The house at 1574 Kleinfeltersville Road offers serenity and solitude that the world seeks when they go on vacation. Begin your morning as the birds flock to the front porch feeders. You~ll see the usual suspects: chickadees, wrens, and jeweled hummingbirds. You~ll hear spring peepers singing. Next you~ll spot kingbirds, towhees, meadowlarks, grosbeaks, tanagers, bluebirds, buntings, & orioles. Don~t be shocked when a Pileated Woodpecker swoops in: there is a nesting pair in these woods. If you walk a dog before dawn, you~ll hear the low hooting of Great Horned Owls.1574 is a family house, with room for everyone and all their gear. Perhaps even all their work, if someone in the household is a craftsman. There are five bedrooms and three full baths upstairs. Discover the open library with cherry floors ~ shhh, this is the place where the bookworms curl up. Next is the room for the creatives, call it what you will, the homeschool room or the studio, with its travertine floors, granite-topped sink, space for an easel, and inspired woodland viewing.Down on the first floor there~s a family room. Better, there~s a fire room, a long room with a short bar, access to the back screen porch, and a cast iron & soapstone woodstove. Behind the fireroom, a sun room. From any of these rooms, or from the dining room, or the garage, you can walk into the central kitchen. This kitchen was custom built with cupboards crafted from re-claimed barnwood. In the kitchen are beautiful, leathered black granite counters and a matching island top. Beyond these rooms on the first floor, there~s the powder room, the laundry, and a home office. Step from the kitchen into the two-bay garage and you~ll find it capacious, with ceilings high enough to store canoes overhead. Adjacent to the main garage is a third bay, which could be converted to garage space. Currently this room is set up as a wood shop with brilliant lighting and both 120v & 220v power.Outside are nearly five acres to explore, and thousands more across the stocked trout stream. If you stay close, the gently sloping property of 1574 has a chicken coop, which could be a second shed; attached is a chicken run. Below these, a tiered garden. Below the garden is the outdoor entertainment plateau with a deep fire pit where you can light a raging fire that will warm the area while the family gathers around the smaller fire circle to cook dinner over the glowing coals. Down from the fires you~ll find a large shed to store your mower and all your other yard tools. If you have inquisitive little kids, they~ll love watching the egg masses in the little frog pond hatch into tadpoles and grow into frogs & toads. If you train your kids to be amateur naturalists they~ll find much more than frogs on the property: turtles, salamanders, butterflies, deer, mink, rabbits, chipmunks, and even flying squirrels. This property is an Eden, both naturally and by design. In the tangled woodland edge are wild raspberries and blackberries to harvest. In the managed portion of the yard you~ll find a landscaping of fruit and nut trees and fruiting bushes, too. When the leaves are up, 1574 is entirely secluded! After you~ve toured the yard, step back into house through the basement. One flank is a finished workout room. Move to center and you~ll find a full bathroom, and plenty of additional space. The other walk-out flank of the basement would make a man-cave of epic proportions.Head back upstairs and wind down with the abundant wildlife. End your day on the back screen porch, a place to spend the settling hour. The birds will chatter and trill as they fade to silence. When the last bird chitters, the tree frogs start their call & response entertainment, punctuated by the low ~warrump~ of bullfrogs. Behind the frogs you~ll hear crickets and katydids offering their vibrato music. Relax. Tomorrow will be another day in this paradise. You~re home.
